In a major development the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the IG Police Zahur Zaidi and seven other policemen in the custodial death of a suspect in Kotkhai gang rape and murder case in Shimla on Tuesday. The CBI likely to go for the Narco test of these police officials.These police officials were arrested after the CBI got substantial evidence against them include their mobile phones records.
Incidentally the IG Zaidi — a 1994-batch IPS officer was heading a Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiring into the gangrape and murder of a 16-year-old minor girl. Others arrested in the case yesterday include DSP Theog Manoj Joshi, SHO and an assistant sub-inspector, three head constables and one constable. The prime suspect in the Kotkhai gang rape and murder Rajender Singh had allegedly killed Suraj Singh (29) on July 18.
The CBI’s official release says that the arrested accused were produced in the competent court in Shimla and were remanded to Police custody till September 4. The CBI had registered two cases as per the directions of the High Court Shimla and under Sections 302, 376 of IPC and Section 4 of POCSO Act registered in connection with the rape and murder of a minor girl and another FIR related to custodial death of one suspect who had died under mysterious circumstances in the case. The Himachal Pradesh Police had earlier arrested six accused in this case while one had died in the custody of the police. The further investigation in the case continue, the official said.
