Questions raised on IT raids on Karnataka minister DK Shivakumar August 2, 2017

Income Tax department has conducted searches at 39 locations related to Karnataka Energy minister DK Shivakumar.

Income Tax sleuths at Shivakumar’s residence in Kanakapura, Sadashivanagar and Eagleton Golf resort in Bengaluru where the minister was staying with 44 Congress MLAs from Gujarat. The top brass of the Congress is crying political vendetta over the raids, even though this is not the first time Shivakumar is being questioned by the I-T department. The raids started after 7am in the morning.

The I-T department in Bangalore has said in their official statement that the raid is only on DK Shivkumar, but not Eagleton Golf resort or the MLAs.

“The search under Section 132 of the Income Tax Act is an evidence gathering exercise which is being carried in compliance with all statutory requirements. The search is the continuation of an investigation which has been in progress for a considerable period of time,” according to the statement issued by DGIT(Inv), Bangalore.
s, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel tweeted, “BJP is on an unprecedented witch-hunt just to win one Rajya Sabha seat. After using the state machinery and every other agency, these I-T raids show their utter desperation & frustration.”
In Delhi Arun Jaitly said “No IT raid happened in any resort or on MLA in Gujarat. In Karnataka, searches are being undertaken in 39 places. Leader himself went to resort.”

Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament said “MLAs are being pressurised and threatened by IT officers. This was first done in Gujarat and now in Karnataka.  Political vendetta has been plotted against our party. ”
