Street theatre is a much direct, brief and concise theatrical expression as it includes a catalyst of change, awareness, revolution & liberation. The objective is to convey a particular idea or to portray a significant meaning—a direct, intimate and effective means of dramaturgy. To keep the essence of this art form alive, ‘Verve’- The Street Play Society Of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies organizes their 12th edition of ‘Manthan’- India’s largest street play festival.
Manthan’19, with the motive of instigating change in the society, encourages everyone not to press the snooze button and step up and grab each and every opportunity that leads to the development of the society. The 12th edition of Manthan is covering 60+ cities in India and 24 international locations in 14 countries like Argentina, Uganda, Morocco, Venezuela etc
On 23rd of February, the National Capital witnessed Manthan Mahotsava – a grand celebration of street theatre where around 800 artists of 44 distinguished teams performed street plays to raise a message of social awareness in 17 prominent locations including Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort, and Hauz Khas Village etc. Some of the topics were privacy, homosexuality, suicide, disability, mental health, fascism, poverty, human trafficking etc.
On the occasion of World Theatre Day i.e on 27th March, the whole world will witness the flourishing colors of Manthan as street theatre performances will be performed at 9 locations of Delhi, 18 national locations and 7 international locations. The performances will be held at Pacific Mall (Subhash Nagar), Jama Masjid, Karol Bagh, Jamia Milia Islamia etc in Delhi.
