Congress president Rahul Gandhi has turned 49. The Gandhi scion, who has been projected as the face of youth in the country, has had a tough couple of years as the chief of the grand old party.
However, opposition parties buried the hatchet for a day and extended their greetings on the occasion of his birthday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the wishes with an early morning post on social media platform Twitter.
“Best wishes to Shri Rahul Gandhi on his birthday. May he be blessed with good health and long life,” PM Modi said in his Twitter post.
Several Congress leaders also extended their greetings to their party president, with Mumbai Congress chief and former Union minister Milind Deora leading the list with wishes for Gandhi.
The Congress party also put out a tweet enlisting their president’s five biggest moments which according to them inspired the people of India.
Meanwhile, a Congress worker named Phool Singh reached Rahul Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi to perform a pooja to extend his birthday wishes to the Congress chief.
Rahul Gandhi has been under the lens after the debacle the Congress faced in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, with critics across the country questioning his credibility as an able leader after he lost his home constituency of Amethi, a Gandhi bastion for over three decades. He then contested from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala as a second seat and was once again elected as a Member of Parliament.
