Study: 2019 Monsoon has been the slowest progress

This year Monsoon has so far been the slowest progressing Monsoon in last 12 years Met department records show.

Usually, two third of India is normally under the spell of monsoon by this time of the year but this year monsoon has reached only 10-15% of the country.

Slowest progress has resulted in a 44% rainfall deficit. Till now monsoon covers Kerala, South Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and most parts of Northeast India.

IMD’s lead monsoon forecaster said we expect monsoon to reach Konkan Coast in another two-three days while in Maharashtra by June 25.

Monsoon’s progress has assumed added urgency this year because of water shortage in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and some other parts of central and South India.
