TC CHANDIGARH: Sports Day of Gurukul Global School IT Park Chandigarh was held on 23 November 2019 at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula. International shot put player Tejinder Pal Singh was the chief guest on Sports Day and he said ideally students from an early age must engage in training from NIS sports coach to master the nuances of the game so that students can bring laurels for their school, state and country. School director Parveen Setia and Principal Urvashi Kakkar honored the star players of the school along with other guests. Today’s senior best athlete were Swastik, Shruti Shashank and Anahia were best junior athletes.
Best Sportsperson Miss Hunar Mittal Golf, Best Sportsperson Arnav Aggarwal Table Tennis, Kirti House received the Best House Trophy and around 190 students were awarded for outstanding performance. Chief guest Tejindaer Toor in a special conversation with media persons said that about a year ago, India received the seventh gold medal at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta.
Just to reiterate In the men’s shotput event, Tajinderpal Singh Toor won the gold medal by throwing 20.75 meters. He also set a new shotput record at the Asian Games. Tejinder initially threw 19.96 m. He was challenged by Liu Yang of China, 19.52 m and Ivan Ivanov of Kazakhstan, 19.40 m. In Shotput, India had to wait for 16 years for the gold medal. Prior to Tejinder, Bahadur Singh Sagoo won the gold by throwing 19.03 meters in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan. Tejinder is the eighth Indian player to win a gold medal in the Asian Games shotput event.
Tejinder born in Khosa Pando village of Moga district of Punjab, Tejinder wanted to become a cricketer in childhood. Seeing the tall and strong body, his father asked him to try the shotput. Tejinder obeyed him and got engaged in practice. Tejinder, who has completed 23 years of age, has completed his studies from the Malwa College of Physical Education, Bathinda. He joined the Indian Navy sports quota after pursuing a degree in physical education from the college. Tejinder won the silver medal in the Asian Championship held in Bhubaneswar in 2017 last year. He was disappointed in the Commonwealth Games held in 2018 this year.
