<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Melon</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1140-fun-facts-melons-promo.imgcache.revaa4846254bfaa0684ba9fda5bcd05ecd-1024x588.jpg?resize=400%2C230&#038;ssl=1" alt="melons" class="wp-image-201998" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>Whole melons, such as cantaloupe, watermelon, and honeydew, taste best when stored at room temperature.</p>

<p>Some research even suggests that refrigerating melon will degrade the antioxidant content more quickly, so eating it at room temperature makes that fruit healthier, too. After cutting, you can store melon in the fridge for about 3-4 days.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bread</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Sandwich-Bread-Loaf-1-1024x697.jpg?resize=400%2C272&#038;ssl=1" alt="Bread" class="wp-image-201999" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>Bread is relatively perishable in general; it just doesn’t last very long before molding. Some people put it in the refrigerator to stave off mold growth, and it does help in that sense. But refrigerating bread also dries it out so you can’t enjoy it anyway.</p>

<p>Bread is best stored in a bread drawer or in the pantry. If you need to extend its life, freeze it and then toast slices as needed.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tomatoes</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/health-benefits-of-tomatoes-main-image-700-350.jpg?w=400&#038;ssl=1" alt="tomatoes" class="wp-image-202000" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>While a lot of produce does better in the refrigerator, tomatoes are best stored on the counter. Chilling whole tomatoes strips their flavor and makes the texture mealy.</p>

<p>If your tomatoes are under-ripe, put them on a sunny windowsill. If they begin to over-ripen it’s best to cook them, after which they can be stored in the fridge.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Hot Sauce</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/818rIf9Y98L._SY355_.jpg?w=400&#038;ssl=1" alt="Hot Sauce" class="wp-image-202001" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>It’s okay to store the hot sauce in the refrigerator, but it does steal some of the spicy heat of the peppers. And there is really no need to chill hot sauce to preserve it.</p>

<p>There is plenty of vinegar in there that prevents bacterial growth.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" src="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/shutterstock_1184075842.jpg?w=400&#038;ssl=1" alt="Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread" class="wp-image-202002" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>This tasty spread goes great on graham crackers, toast, or fruit, but when you keep it in the fridge it solidifies and can’t be spread.</p>

<p>Cold chocolate-hazelnut spread also loses some of its distinctive flavors. In general, unopened containers can keep for two months in the pantry. Open containers are safe for about a month past their sell-by date even without refrigeration.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Apples</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="400" height="267" data-attachment-id="202013" data-permalink="https://thecorrespondent.in/home-big-news/never-ever-put-these-foods-in-your-fridge/attachment/apple-4/" data-orig-file="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Apple.jpg?fit=612%2C408&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="612,408" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="Apple" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Apple.jpg?fit=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Apple.jpg?fit=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Apple.jpg?resize=400%2C267&#038;ssl=1" alt="Apple" class="wp-image-202013" srcset="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Apple.jpg?w=612&amp;ssl=1 612w, https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Apple.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>You can refrigerate your apples if you prefer them cold, but there is no need to. In fact, chilling them tends to break down their crispness.</p>

<p>Apples are a nice fruit to display on a table or counter for a couple of weeks. At that point, any that haven’t been eaten can be put in the fridge to extend their life a few days more.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"> Berries</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="400" height="281" data-attachment-id="202014" data-permalink="https://thecorrespondent.in/home-big-news/never-ever-put-these-foods-in-your-fridge/attachment/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries/" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?fit=2000%2C1406&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="2000,1406" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;(c) Creative Crop&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="Berries" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?fit=300%2C211&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?fit=400%2C281&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries-1024x720.jpg?resize=400%2C281&#038;ssl=1" alt=" Berries" class="wp-image-202014" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?resize=1024%2C720&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?resize=300%2C211&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?resize=768%2C540&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?resize=100%2C70&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?resize=696%2C489&amp;ssl=1 696w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?resize=1068%2C751&amp;ssl=1 1068w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?resize=597%2C420&amp;ssl=1 597w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?w=2000&amp;ssl=1 2000w, https://i0.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/131223161925-2013-fragrance-berries.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>Barries just don’t last very long after picking, so it’s best to buy them on the day you want them rather than store them.</p>

<p>Still, the fridge is better than the counter if you are going to hang on to berries for a few days. However, most get moldy very quickly once they become wet, so never rinse a whole carton and then store it.</p>

<p>Eventually, Simply keeping these items in the pantry, on the counter, or in a drawer will improve their flavor, texture, and longevity. However, chilling these foods is recommended after they have been cut or cooked.</p>

<p>Additionally, the fridge can preserve already-ripe fruit for a couple more days, but remember that fruit does not ripen well there. We hope this info will help you begin to enjoy your food in a way you didn’t know was possible!<br></p>

<p><strong>Olive oil</strong>: It’s true that some vegetable oils are bad for your liver and heart, and contain saturated fat which may do some damage to your body over time. However, olive oil has healthy fat (unsaturated fat) which is good for your cardiovascular system and liver.</p>

<p>It has been shown to protect the liver from oxidative stress, thereby preventing and resolving liver damage through; less fat accumulation and increased blood flow to the heart. It also helps to improve insulin sensitivity and increase the levels of good proteins involved in body processes, as well as increase blood levels of liver enzymes. With all these benefits, olive oil is truly the balm for the liver.</p>

<p><strong>Nuts:</strong> Nuts are very high in vitamin E, which is an important antioxidant necessary for lots of health benefits to the body, not only the liver.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="400" height="400" data-attachment-id="201896" data-permalink="https://thecorrespondent.in/lifestyle/good-food-good-liver/attachment/mix_nuts-1/" data-orig-file="https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?fit=1000%2C1000&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="1000,1000" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="Nuts" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?fit=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?fit=400%2C400&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?resize=400%2C400&#038;ssl=1" alt="Nuts" class="wp-image-201896" srcset="https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?w=1000&amp;ssl=1 1000w, https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?resize=696%2C696&amp;ssl=1 696w, https://i1.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Mix_Nuts-1.jpg?resize=420%2C420&amp;ssl=1 420w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>Nuts are also protective against fatty liver diseases and help increase blood levels of liver enzymes.</p>

<p><strong>Cruciferous Vegetables</strong>: The weird name means vegetables like brussels sprout, broccoli, and cabbage – not a favorite among kids, but definitely worth eating for everyone, regardless of age.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="400" height="267" data-attachment-id="201898" data-permalink="https://thecorrespondent.in/lifestyle/good-food-good-liver/attachment/cruciferous-vegetables/" data-orig-file="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Cruciferous-Vegetables.jpg?fit=600%2C400&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="600,400" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;Getty Images\/Westend61&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;Vegetables, close-up&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;79560972&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="Cruciferous-Vegetables" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Cruciferous-Vegetables.jpg?fit=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Cruciferous-Vegetables.jpg?fit=400%2C267&amp;ssl=1" src="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Cruciferous-Vegetables.jpg?resize=400%2C267&#038;ssl=1" alt="Cruciferous-Vegetables" class="wp-image-201898" srcset="https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Cruciferous-Vegetables.jpg?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https://i2.wp.com/thecorrespondent.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Cruciferous-Vegetables.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w" sizes="(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>
