TC Punjab Bureau: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) asked the State Election Commission (SEC) for deploying para-military forces to ensure free and fair elections in the state. A delegation led by former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema also apprised State Election Commissioner Jagpal Singh Sandhu about the murderous attack on Akali workers and SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal at Jalalabad today.Terming the attack as a sad day for democracy, the delegation held accusation against Congress legislator Raminder Singh Awla and urged SEC for the registration of appropriate cases against the Congress goons who indulged in the violence as well as police officials who had facilitated the same.
He also said, “If Congress goons have become so emboldened that they can launch an attack on a Z plus protection who has earlier served as the deputy chief minister then there can be no safety for the common man”.
The SAD leader said the matter had also been raised during the All Party meeting. He said “we told the chief minister that at a time when we are discussing how democratic norms are being destroyed by the central government; even more heinous crimes are being done at the grass root level in Punjab. The Chief Minister took note of our complaint and assured to look into it but we are still waiting for concrete action in the matter”, he added.
