Aarthi Raghavan: With restaurants and fast food joints closed (barring takeouts) and everyone eating at home, there is a supply chain disruption. Farmers are unable to reach raw material to factories & restaurants who were bulk consumers. Factory production results in processed foods like dairy products, biscuits, jams, snacks, packaged drinks, frozen/instant foods and anything with an extended shelf life.

We also have the restaurants and industrial kitchen who’s final outputs result in heavy wastages to produce a plate of food. Many farmers are having to throw fruits and vegetables away to rot as there is simply no way to transport them and demand has taken a sharp downturn. There seems to be no way to get this surplus produce across to those who are starving across the world.
Remove processed foods and restaurants from the food cycle and we are left with surplus food the world over. Everyone is unfortunately stuck eating fresh and healthy home cooked meals! Covid-19 has clearly destroyed the world and hopefully we will all go back to ‘normal’ and our wasteful ways once again!!!
